The Calligraphy Guild of WA (CGWA) recently held its 2015 Exhibition in early June. The event was considered a success and attracted much interest and promoted the Guild members talents and activities. It also attracted some new members too!
CGWA fosters and promotes through its membership, an interest and a passion for penmanship, lettering and the lettering arts. But this interest and passion goes beyond just the pen and hand lettering! The calligraphic work exhibited not only included functional inscriptions, demonstrating skilled penmanship and highly decorative writing, but also calligraphic designs that may be considered fine-art pieces that are truly examples of the work of the modern scribe.
Central Park is opposite the beautifully restored building that previously housed the West Australian Newspaper and is one of Perth City’s iconic skyscrapers. The Guild’s exhibition also highlighted current works by its members and was held in the foyer of Central Park.
Also on display was the Guild’s art collection by world famous calligraphers and modern day scribes. Featuring works by Charles Pearce, Thomas Ingmire, Anne Hechle, Australia's Gemma Black and many more.
